Building Dreams Students Respond to Gratitude

Through our partnership with Jack and Jill Magazine our Building Dreams scholars have been focusing on the value of gratitude during the month of May and into June. Marlin talked about the importance of gratitude and how showing appreciation for the things that you have helps you succeed. We challenged our students and readers to share with us how they show gratitude in their own lives.

Check out some of the answers from our students below!

If your child wants to get involved in our #BuildingDreamsBowl, head on over to this page to read more information, like how they can win an autograph from Marlin Jackson, and be entered to win an NFL Jersey of their choice!

  • What does gratitude mean to you?
  • How do you show gratitude in your own life and why?

Gratitude means being thankful. I show gratitude by helping my grandma around the house because it makes me feel good.  -Uri, 8, IN

Gratitude means being thankful for what you have and caring for it. I make sure that I say thank you when I get something. -Lily, 9, MO

Gratitude means to show how thankful you are because of what people do for you. I show gratitude by cleaning, using what I already have, and donating toys to other people who don’t have many. I do this because I know that there are people who are less fortunate than me. -Ayla, 9, NY

Gratitude means the act of forgiving, appreciation, and love to me. I show my gratitude to people by trying to be as much help as I can. I also forgive people as hard as I can try. I do this because I know it is a good thing to do. -Jeremiah, 8, IN

To me, gratitude means to show appreciation for someone or something. I show gratitude by helping around the house, or helping grade papers for a teacher, because I care and we need to be kind to each other. -Riley, 11, CA

To me it means that you are being thankful for what you get and to not be disappointed if it’s a small amount. I show gratitude by saying “thank you” to my mom and dad when they didn’t do anything at the time because they do hard work every day so they should be treated with respect. -Abigail, 8, NC

Gratitude means being thankful for my family and friends. I show gratitude by being good in school and listening to my parents. -Gracey, 8, MI
