Fight for Life Awarded the United Way Social Innovation Fund Grant

Dear Fight For Life Foundation supporters, partners and friends,

We are thrilled to share that Fight For Life Foundation has been selected as one of just 14 community organizations to be awarded a grant from United Way of Central Indiana’s Social Innovation Fund. We received the top award amount distributed in this round, $143,000!

We were invited to submit a full grant proposal from a pool of 114 Letters of Interest submitted, only 37 of which were invited to apply for the funds. This demonstrates how rigorous the review process was and how thoughtfully these grant awards were considered when it came to funding the initiatives that would be of most benefit to our community. We are honored that Fight For Life Foundation has been awarded this grant to further enable the positive impact of the Building Dreams program and platform.

Marlin Jackson, Founder and CEO of Fight For Life Foundation shared the following:

“Receiving the United Way of Central Indiana Social Innovation Fund Grant is a milestone for the Fight for Life Foundation. Our bold innovative approach provides a systematic strategy for solving the behavioral issues within classrooms that disrupts learning and causes poor academic performance, which perpetuates the cycle of poverty. In our efforts to empower ALL students to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically, the United Way of Central Indiana has just provided a major boost that will enable Fight for Life to help students Overcome ACEs & Social Determinants of Health via early intervention. We are thrilled to receive this funding and prepared to continue making our vision reality.”

The UWCI Social Innovation Fund grant will allow FFLF to subsidize School site license fees for the Building Dreams program implementation in additional schools to serve more educators and students, develop new functionality for Nurses Office Visits in partnership with PHDP which allows for tying student health to academic performance and provide real-time on-demand Spanish language translation support through services from LUNA Language Services. It will also enable advances in technology integrations allowing for the build of API’s that will enable the Building Dreams platform to pull data from Powerschool and Skyward data management systems.

With your continued dedication to and support of the foundation, we’ve made significant operational, technological, and data-related advances with the Building Dreams program and platform this year. Those advances have helped us grow our client base significantly, prove the value of the Building Dreams program in combatting Covid-related learning loss, and have helped create stronger classrooms and healthier schools. Those dedicated efforts and demonstrated outcomes played a significant role in us being awarded such significant funding through the UWCI Social Innovation Fund.

We hope that you’ll join us in celebrating this milestone of success and are looking forward to be good stewards to these funds and creating even more positive impact in our community. We challenge you to join the fight and support the efforts of Fight For Life Foundation as we move into this exciting new time of growth and impact. We are inviting you to donate, volunteer, or become a partner with us today by emailing lisamitchell@fightforlifefoundation.org to learn how you can help us create stronger classrooms and healthier schools today!

This is just the beginning of more great things to come!

With gratitude,
Marlin & Lisa
