2017 was a big year for Fight For Life Foundation. We saw expansion in our Building Dreams program allowing us to impact more kids, we partnered with some amazing organizations and foundations who support us in our mission, and we were able to make progress in technological advancements. Here’s a peek into our Top Five Moments of 2017:
#5: Partnering with Fast Track It Online Auctions to impact our students and families both now and in the future
Fast Track It played a huge role in our Be A Blessing program this year by donating hundreds of toys, bikes, and supplies to our students and their families. Through online auctions, not only were items able to be donated, but funds were also raised to support our mission. We’re excited to continue this partnership into next year and to see all of the good that will come from it!
#4: Partnering with Salesforce’s “Coding for Kindness” to continue advancing Fight For Life’s technological capibilities
Salesforce has played a pivitol role in the way we’re able to share our messages online and the way we can interact with our schools, sponsors, and kids. Coding4Kindness helps nonprofit organizations with technical needs regarding websites and communication systems through a day long “hackathon.” In 2017 we were able to make significant steps forward in developing an app that will allow teachers to connect with both students and parents in order to track progress and stay on the same page. Stay tuned to 2018 for more details regarding this exciting development!
#3: Hosting a handful of networking events for our partners and sponsors
Our business colleagues, partners, and friends make up a network of inspiring individuals who share a common interest in serving underserved youth in Indianapolis and beyond. We hosted a number of networking events this year, from Taco Night to a Tailgate party, it was a blast connecting with such a motivated and creative group of community members.
#2: Expanding Building Dreams to a total of five schools
This year, we expanded our Building Dreams program to five schools: Musser Elementary (Sharon, PA), George and Veronica Phalen Leadership Academy, Phalen Leadership Academy at 103, Phalen Leadership Academy at 93, and Mini-Men Pre-K Leadership Academy. We exposed hundreds of children to social emotional learning, where they not only are taught academic lessons, but behavior lessons as well. Our teachers and schools have seen tremendous improvement in the way that their students can identify traits like volunteerism, self-respect, and financial literacy in the classroom and in their everyday lives. #1: Receiving a grant from the Anthem Inc. Foundation!
Fight For Life was awarded a $20,000 grant from The Anthem Foundation who became the presenting sponsor of our Seal the Deal Youth Football Camp. In addition, they generously donated to Fight For Life to extend their impact to our Building Dreams program and beyond. This grant allowed us to teach teamwork and core values to young football players in our community as well as continue to develop our classroom programming in Building Dreams.
