Implicit Bias Training

The full session is broken into 2 one and a half-hour parts. The two part session will be held on November 18th and 19th from 4:30-6pm pm each day. Each of the 2 parts will be hosted via Zoom for Fight for Life staff and board members, as well as Admins and teachers from Building Dreams sites.
Session 1 – Part A:
Group Code- Setting the type of environment participants agree to uphold to ensure the best atmosphere for learning.
What is Implicit Bias– Definition. Ensuring a shared vocabulary and understanding.
Envisioning Our Community—Exercise that allows participants to set intentions and expectations on the type of workplace they will inhabit.
PBPK (Perceptions based on Partial Knowledge, name not to be shared with participants.)—Activity that show participants how implicit bias show up in real time.
Session 2- Part B:
Harvard Implicit Bias Test—Unpack and discuss Harvard IB test. Participants will be given this as homework to take before there session.
Gatekeeping—Discussion focused on gatekeepers; Anyone in an institutional / organizational role or position who can grant or deny access to institutional resources or equity. Gatekeepers are, by structural design, accountable to the institutions they work for, and not the people they serve. They function as buffers between their institutions and the community.
Group Planning— Reflect and brainstorm ideas of how to counteract implicit bias on internal, interpersonal, and institutional levels.
